Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant, based in Huntington, Long Island. The incumbent will work rotating shifts during Mon-Fri, between the hours of 8am to 6pm, for a total work week of 35 hours.
In this role, the successful candidate is will act as a general assistant to lab personnel. He/she is responsible for Bac-T media inventory; waste processing, stocking and distribution of supplies to lab; run daily errands.
Prepare bacteriological plates for department. Keep track of all supplies as necessary to complete tasks, place orders when necessary. Maintain log-book of work.
Perform errands in support of departmental research activities Clean work areas in labs upon request of lab manager or PI. Prepare sterile (autoclave and filter sterilized) media and reagents for department
Maintain sterile glassware inventory for particular lab areas. Leave neat work area following completion of daily activities. Provide general care and maintenance of work areas and equipments. Report to supervisor when calls to facilities or contractors are necessary.
Maintain log-book and report damaged glassware according to established criteria. Hand wash of specialty items not fit for machine washing. Work effectively in designated weekly time schedule to complete substantial work flow. Filing and record keeping of orders.
Daily collection of used glassware and pipettes from labs. Clean, dry and sterilize glassware according to instructions. Maintain glassware labeling according to instructions. Return glassware to labs.
Perform additional cleaning tasks as required.
High school diploma or equivalent, and minimum one year of clinical laboratory experience and practical knowledge of information system operations. Appropriate interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, physicians, and other customers of the Medical Center. Strong verbal communication skills in English language. Strong writing skills in the English language to include, but not limited to, legibility, neatness and completeness of thought. Detail oriented, capable of handling stress from irregular workload and demonstrate businesslike and professional attitude at all times.
1-2 years experience with inventory control & supply.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
