The Executive Director University of Chicago Medicine Physicians will work closely with the leadership of the Clinically Integrated Network of faculty and non-faculty providers to ensure that the expansion of the Clinically Integrated Network is coordinated and successfully planned and implemented.
This position will be responsible for the financial analytics in support of physician activities for the faculty practice plan value including monitoring of Clinical Department financial performance and physician productivity levels, and costs. This position will oversee activities related to the Physician Groupâ™s revenue cycle, including charge capture, charge interfaces, billing and collections, credit balance management, denial management, provider plan enrollment, specified coding activities, and the related technology platforms and tools. A key revenue cycle function will be to successfully optimize workflow and system configuration after the recent Epic Resolute implementation.
The position will be accountable for the development and implementation of practice plan, UCPG/UCM dashboards; serve on enterprise-wide initiatives as a UCPG representative; and will participate in other activities of the faculty practice plan as they evolve. The position will report to and work closely with the Chief Physician and Dean of Clinical Affairs to establish the infrastructure needed to formalize the practice plan, including governance, policy, committee, and subcommittee structure.
In addition to reporting to the Chief Physician and Dean of Clinical Affairs, this individual will have a matrix reporting relationship to the Vice-President of Revenue Cycle and the Vice Dean of the BSD. S/he will provide regular reports, acts as a single point of accountability for UCPGâ™s revenue cycle performance and improvement opportunities.
The Executive Director University of Chicago Medicine Physicians will serve as a key leader for the faculty practice plan, ensuring all operations align with the University of Chicago goals and initiatives with an emphasis on operational performance, revenue enhancement, customer service, and employee work culture.
In collaboration with the Chief Physician and Dean of Clinical Affairs and BSD Senior Leaders, the Executive Director and Finance Officer will work to grow and develop the practice plan at the University of Chicago.
He or she will serve as the administrative lead in implementing a strategic plan to expand the clinical practice.
Serve as the UCPG representative to a variety of critical enterprise wide projects.
At present, the key responsibilities for leadership and representation will include serving as the UCPG representative on the Revenue Cycle Optimization (best practices) initiative, the Clinically Integrated Network, the UCHP oversight, and the Epic Optimization Committee.
Future needs will include working collaboratively with the Dean of Clinical Affairs and Vice Dean of the BSD to establish a governance structure that formalizes the University of Chicago Practice Plan including councils and sub councils, and ways in which the practice plan can cultivate physician leaders within the organization.
Design systems, processes, and tactics that emphasize optimal performance; continuously develop and enhance all relevant processes, drawing on best practice expertise.
Manage to goals established for key performance indicators, including days in AR, % of AR > 180 and 90 days, credit balances as a % of accounts receivable, and net collection rate.
Work closely with Department Executive administrators and revenue cycle leaders across the organization to address local and system-wide revenue cycle opportunities.
Collaborate effectively with the VP of Ambulatory Care Services to manage the transition in revenue cycle from pre-visit and day of service activities through full adjudication of the patient account.
Lead, manage and/or participate in various analytical exercises, benchmarking processes, and information exchanges that support and lead to enhancements through which UCPG/UCM financial operations can be evaluated and enhanced.
Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of healthcare systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to develop and implement financial strategies.
Ability to develop relevant performance reporting suite of metrics, and related structure of performance review meetings to establish an accountable environment.
Aptitude to research, develop, and apply proven financial, workforce, and process management principles and methods to optimize financial performance.
Capacity to complete or contribute to the completion of various financial forecasts and plans in support of the formulation of Departmental annual revenue budgets and proformas.
Work collaboratively with the Budget Office and Deanâ™s Office in reviewing Clinical Department budget submissions, cost center productivity, and expense benchmark comparisons to industry standards, and overall Clinical Department financial performance.
Bachelorâ™s degree in business or related field; Masterâ™s degree in relevant field preferred.
Ten yearâ™s experience overseeing physician revenue cycle activities required; deep understanding of all physician revenue cycle operations required; previous experience in an academic setting highly desirable.
Previous Epic experience highly desirable.
Action oriented leader; proven ability to lead change, organize teams and delegate appropriately.
Ability to use data to drive performance improvement.
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
Knowledge of EPIC Resolute Professional Billing
Knowledge of revenue cycle operations, including oversight and management of the following functions: revenue and charge capture, charge interfaces, professional billing and collections, credit balance management, denial management, specified coding activities and related education, and the related technology platforms and tools.
Experience making improvements in operational standards to positively impact the overall collection, financial yield, and the service experience.
Proven expertise working within a health system providing evolution of corporate approaches and standards.
