Summary of the Position
Provide confidential, evidence based, high quality, timely, direct medical care that is respectful to all individuals. With a strong commitment and respect for diversity, this position supports our students in achieving optimum personal and academic success.
9 Month Position: Academic Year.
Review all pertinent medical information in the patient's electronic health record and document this review. Obtain thorough medical history, perform physical exam and order, obtain, review and follow up pertinent lab data related to the presenting problem.
Provide treatment recommendations and prescriptions according to practice guidelines, evidence based medicine and in accordance with the collaborative agreement with the physician-consultant.
Provide tight follow-up on all patients. Always keep in mind ethics, confidentiality and risk management with encounters with patients and/or their families.
Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients and recognize and support differences while providing culturally competent health care. Refer to appropriate outside medical and mental health consultants and specialists and follow-up as needed.
Consult with and notify the Director, Associate Director, Physician-consultant and Nurse Practitioner colleagues appropriately. Document patient or family encounters or phone calls in the electronic medical record clearly and completely in a timely manner.
Collaborate respectfully with other key offices on campus, especially the Counseling Center, University Police, Residential Center and the Dean's Office when appropriate and indicated. Notify the Director or Associate Director of any significant medical, psychological or high risk concerns.
Keep current with up-to-date medical literature and participate actively in weekly clinical case conferences. Triage patients with acute urgent medical situations promptly and refer as needed for appropriate emergency or follow-up care.
Minimum Qualifications(Education and Experience Requirements)
• Master's Degree from college or university from a Nurse Practitioner program. • 3+ years of strong NP clinical experience and decision making in Internal Medicine, Primary Care or Urgent Care. • 2+ years of clinical experience as an RN. • Strong interpersonal skills and experience with adolescent/young adult patient population. • Computer experience with electronic health records required. • Recommended experience: Triage, Emergency Room, ICU.
The position requires sitting, walking and standing. Occasionally requires the ability to assist a client to stand or walk. The office is equipped with standard medical supplies as needed in a clinical setting. (i.e. exam tables, microscopes, stethoscope etc.).
