Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School, is seeking a full-time Pathologist to work in the Bergen County Medical Examiner's office in Paramus, NJ. The successful candidate will join the growing Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School located in Newark NJ. The physician shall provide the necessary leadership and direction to enhance the quality, image and future growth of the Medical Examiner's Office. This position is open to non-faculty candidates.
Management and oversight of the provision of all forensic pathology services at the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office, including coverage of the Medical Examiner’s Office during all periods of operation.
Maintains a schedule, meeting the coverage requirements.
Has responsibility for the professional supervision of non-physicians in the Medical Examiner’s Office, including laboratory personnel.
Has responsibility for requirements of applicable regulatory agencies.
Participates in educational programs.
Reports to the administration of County, as required, all statistical, budgetary, financial, staffing and other information, pertinent to the operation and performance of the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Assists in the development of administrative rules, policies and regulations, as they pertain to the Medical Examiner’s Office, in coordination with third party laboratory management team.
Conducts ongoing performance improvement reviews in accordance with Joint Commission, government and County guidelines. Cooperates with any independent consultant selected by County to review particular cases, a particular Rutgers Physician and/or the Medical Examiner’s Office performance improvement process.
Performs Forensic Autopsies.
Remains involved in other Continuing Medical Education requirements.
Provides testimony, as required in any proceeding.
Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
Minimum Education and Experience:
MD degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.
Board certified or board eligible in Forensic Pathology.
Credential Required: Licensed, or eligible, by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners.
Current DEA and CDS registration.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to type and use a computer to enter in the Electronic Medical Records.
Manual dexterity and mobility for charting (typing).
Ability to handle emergency and crisis situations.
Must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings.
Two (2) years of experience as a forensic pathologist.
Fluent in Spanish.
