Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Chair and Department Administrator with accountability to the Department Compliance Leaders. This position will support the department's compliance program and will provide continuing compliance education to all members of the Department of Emergency Medicine. The Regulatory Compliance Officer will manage and administer all regulatory programs in the areas of clinical, financial, research and education for the Department.
1.The Regulatory Compliance Officer will set standards of performance that conform to various national, state and local laws and regulations. Including but not limited to Billing Compliance and Clinical research compliance Interpret regulatory requirements of the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), the American Board of Dermatology (ABD) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). Integrate interpretation of these requirements into current compliance plans, develop process for compliance, and is the Department resource to provide education and oversight to faculty, residents, nursing, research and education staff.
2.Enhance departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
3.Participate with the Chair, Departmental Administrator, key faculty and administrative leadership in the development of strategic plans to ensure integration of regulatory requirements into operational goals and objectives.
4.Ensure compliance with coding and billing, in accordance with HCFA requirements and managed care organizations by monitoring departmental compliance program.
5.Create templates to facilitate appropriate and thorough documentation by faculty. Monitor medical records for compliance with documentation requirements, and internal policies and procedures
6.Oversee education of faculty and staff to policies and procedures designed to meet regulatory requirements. Attend conferences and seminars to keep abreast of new requirements, trends and share information with faculty and staff. Prepare training materials and provide periodic updates for staff. Set volume standards for coders of OR records, ICU records and Pain Management records. Enhance current coding testing tools. Oversee the maintenance and update of the departmental compliance plan and prepare changes as necessary.
General Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.
Must hold a current CPC certification.
Comprehensive knowledge of CPT code and ICD-10.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures and applicable local, state, federal, agency regulations.
Ability to work under pressure with multiple and competing deadlines required.
Must be highly organized, with excellent communication and follow through skills.
Must have proven record of ability to work as part of a team, with administrative, clinical, research, and financial staff.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and web-based database applications preferred.
