The Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine invites applications for a Division Director of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (tenure track) in the Department of Radiology.
The Director is the leader of all aspects of the Division’s enterprise. Responsibilities include faculty recruitment and appointments; development and management of educational, clinical and research programs; fiscal planning and management; and short- and long-term strategic planning. The Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Division handles a busy clinical service and members are active in multiple areas of research, ranging from basic science to translational research and clinical trials. Equipment includes three clinical PET/CTs, a research only PET/CT, an animal PET-CT scanner and a cyclotron and radiochemistry facility. Construction has been approved for a PET/MR.
The Division has a strong record in the development and translation of PET radiopharmaceuticals, quantitative image analysis, and is a leader in the emerging Theranostic field. Division faculty serve as members of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (HCCC) and have deep research and clinical connections with faculty from Radiation Oncology, Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Iowa Institute of Biomedical Imaging (IIBI).
It is expected that the Director will engage with faculty and research programs in one or more of the following key areas. The University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the state and has a large number of very active clinical and research programs (http://uihc.org/holden). One of the four formal Holden cancer research programs is entitled “Free Radical Metabolism and Imaging”. A leadership role in this program is available for qualified candidates. There are currently two NCI Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) Grants being conducted within the HCCC, the Lymphoma SPORE and Neuroendocrine Tumor SPORE. The Neuroendocrine SPORE is built around DOTATOC theranostic clinical translational research.
The Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging was formed in 2007 as an acknowledgement of a long tradition of interdisciplinary collaboration at the University of Iowa. The IIBI reflects a strong institutional support for biomedical imaging and image analysis along with translational medical research. Fellowship training in Nuclear Medicine or Nuclear Radiology.
Board certified or eligible by the American Board of Radiology, American Board of Nuclear Medicine or international equivalent.
A strong history of funded research and scholarship.
Demonstrated capacity to foster a collaborative environment which promotes teaching and the development of educational and research programs across departments.
Demonstrated experience and a commitment to developing and leading clinical and research programs.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and positive interactions with students, staff and faculty. Highly Desirable Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to form relationships with industry collaborators.
Experience in the area of theranostics research.
Leadership or involvement in national molecular imaging initiatives.
Active in collaborative projects at a national or international level.
