Associate degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four years of technical experience in a veterinary hospital or referral clinic environment.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic computer skills in word processing, spread sheets, and billing entry.
Working knowledge of veterinary equipment used within a veterinary teaching hospital such as anesthetic machines, fluid pumps, blood gas analyzers, oscilloscopes, defibrillators, nebulizers, and endoscopic equipment preferred.
May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or âœon-call dutyâ.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Very knowledgeable in the area of Equine Internal Medicine and the instrumentation required in this specialty.
A VTS in Equine Veterinary Nursing or Large Animal Internal Medicine.

Salary: $16.04 - $20.61 per hour
Provide oversight for subordinate technicians, technician assistants and student technicians. Maintains and upholds Infection Prevention Standard Operating Procedures.
Helps maintain and operate point of care laboratory equipment.
Assures proper hospital information management. Enters hospital fees and patient data into the hospital computer information system. Assures that all charges generated from treatments, procedures, and supplies are correctly entered. Monitors and records physiological data into patient medical record and/or ICU flow charts. Records all medications given. Assists with scheduling of client appointments.
Facilitates faculty instruction of professional curriculum to veterinary medical students with an emphasis on clinical techniques. Assists with instructing students in proper clinical techniques to support patient care including: Patient restraint and handling, patient history, initial exam, proper aseptic technique, site preparation. Places and maintains IV and urinary catheters. Performs and/or assists with collection of blood, urine and tissues. Monitors patient status (TPR, vitals, and pain). Administers fluid therapy. Administers meds in IV, PO, and Sub-Q. Exercises patients. Keeps patients clean and groomed. Coordinates, performs, and assists with bandage changes. Administers and monitors patient diet as prescribed.
Assists faculty and students with patient care. Assists with diagnostic internal medicine exams. Administers medication. Collects patient medical history. Maintains IV catheters. Keeps patients cleaned and groomed. Administers and monitors patient diet as prescribed. Exercises patients. Performs or assists with collection of patientâ™s blood, urine, and tissues. Assists with Radiology, Ultrasound, MRI, CT, and Nuclear Sciutigraphy. Provides technical support for surgical & medical procedures. Prepares patients using aseptic techniques. Assists with sterile procedures. Assists with recovery of anesthetized patients.
Provides physical restraint for safe handling of patient animals.
Maintains a sanitary and well-organized service within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Restocks expendable supplies, drugs and solutions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
