Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC (CHP) in conjunction with the Department of Pediatrics, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, seeks to recruit:
The Paul C. Gaffney Division Chief of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. This prestigious appointee will lead a top Division comprised of 23 full-time Pediatric Hospitalists. The Division provides care for more than 99% of all general medical pediatric patients admitted to CHP.
As one of the premier pediatric teaching hospitals in the world, CHP is affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and is revered for its ongoing commitment to foster cutting-edge research. Among the 19 Divisions at CHP, led by a Division Chief and a Clinical Director, the vast majority of the Division Chiefs are NIH-funded investigators ranging from basic to clinical research.
Renowned for its outstanding clinical services, research programs and medical education, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC (CHP) has established the highest standards of excellence in pediatric care. During FY 2017, CHP managed 12,333 inpatient admissions, 9,693 observation stays, 146,748 emergency and Express Care visits, conducted 23,389 surgical procedures and serviced more than 1,000,000 outpatient visits.

The key attributes of the incoming Chief will be scholarly accomplishment, leadership abilities, and clinical excellence. The Chief should have made important contributions to a field of research endeavor and secured research funding related to pediatric hospital medicine. This funding could include NIH, PCORI, AHRQ, CDC and other extramural sources to drive cutting-edge research. The Chief should have the ability to lead a research institute, recruit aspiring investigators, and groom clinical faculty within the Division who have the capability to make bold new discoveries in pediatric hospital medicine.
