The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an opening for a Food Service Worker S04 – Kitchen Assistant for the Conference Center located on the Ithaca campus.
Under the general direction of the Head Cook, in conjunction with the Conference Center Manager, be readily available and aware of customers' needs and wants with positive, impeccable hospitality. The Kitchen Assistant oversees sanitation and dishwashing. Provides custodial needs within the kitchen and organizes storage, food service areas and other areas needing attention. Responsible for monitoring and notifying the Head Cook of broken equipment and low stock items. Receive and sign for deliveries; carefully monitor any deliveries for perished foods, dented cans, broken items and overcharges. Responsible for proper rotation and placement of all delivered food and miscellaneous items. The Kitchen Assistant must be available to prepare and oversee all requests for assistance from the Head Cook. These requests will vary on a daily basis. The assistant needs to develop knowledge of the recipes and responsibilities of the Head Cook, for daily assistance and to serve as backup when necessary. Additionally, this position will be required to assist Conference Center staff, and the Conference Center Manager, as needed. These duties include, but are not limited to, covering the reception desk, setting up and cleaning conference rooms, and assisting with event preparation.
This is a full-time, 39 hour a week, benefits eligible, bargaining unit position that falls under the UAW contract.

High School Diploma with 3-4 years of related food service experience in basic food preparation, food presentation/set-up and kitchen maintenance and sanitation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with customers and other staff members.
Ability to be a team leader when immediate supervisor is not in attendance (oversee student staff).
Demonstrated time management skills are essential, as well as the ability to multi-task.
Possess the ability to be pro-active and anticipate upcoming needs of various events.
Must have experience working in a team-based environment.
Training in sanitation and health guidelines necessary.
Must conduct business in a professional manner and represent the School in a customer-friendly and professional manner.
Demonstrated proficiency working with Word and Excel.
The required position work time Monday – Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Nights and weekends as needed.
Punctuality and exemplary attendance record is essential.
Will require adherence to ILR Conference Center dress code and hygiene requirements.
Ability to plan a menu is preferred for emergency situations.
Experience outlook helpful.
