We are looking for someone to fill our live-in position. We are an animal hospital located in the heart of West Knoxville, within a min from Pellissippi Parkway. Very easy commute for student to and from the Vet School. Prefer a vet student. In exchange for FREE room, board, cable, internet, wifi, etc, we ask to be able to complete the job requirements listed.
1.You are expected to be present every day at closing to see if there are any hospitalized cases. If there happens to be a night you can’t be here, then you need to call.
2.When there are patients on fluids throughout the night, they should be checked throughout the night to make sure fluids are running. Usually right before bed, then @2-3am, should be fine. Make every attempt to make sure the line runs with not problems, ie Flush, reposition, etc.
3.Before bed EVERY night, walk through the kennels (Small, Large, Iso, Prep, and Cat)
a.Check to make sure every pet has food and water (pay close attention to Cat Ward and dogs that jump. If needed, change out their water dish to either one that attaches to the cage or a larger bowl)
b.Make sure any pets with procedures the next day have food/water pulled
c.Check any surgery cases that had procedures THAT day and make sure doing ok, no excess bleeding, alert, etc.
d.Make sure ALL outside doors are locked and secured. (push on the one in large dog to ensure it has actually locked)
e.Spray out kennel if pet has stool present in cage at last walk-through.
4.If there is an emergency after hours, it is your responsibility as the live-in to be available to assist in any way needed. For example, if an emergency comes in at 6:00, you are the one that should help with anything needed after closing and relieve the others working. This is not paid, it is part of your getting FREE room/board/utilities/cable/internet etc.
5.ANY questions or clarification needed for medication CALL THE DOCTOR whose case it is.
6.You are expected to spend 98% of the nights here. If not spending the night, you must contact Practice Manager and make sure you have someone to cover in case of emergencies or late night treatments. Lange will pay an employee for 2 nights coverage for while you are away, then the rest must come out of your pocket.
7.We don’t expect you to spend every waking (or sleeping) hour here, but at the same time, you are expected to be here as much as possible during closed hours.
8.Room is expected to be kept clean and ready incase of inspection. Yes, you MUST clean the bathroom as well, REGULARLY.
9.In case of Insulin dependent pets, you are expected to be here at the correct time to feed them and give insulin as directed.
