Summary of Essential Job Duties: The Assistant Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department is an exempt management position. The position will be 8hr evening shift, 5 days a week and variable weekends. Under the leadership and guidance of the Associate Director, the Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for assisting in the coordination of the daily (24-hr/7) operations of the Emergency Department in order to provide high quality, individualized patient care and in support of the medical center philosophies. The Assistant Nurse Manager functions as a leader, as well as an expert professional practitioner. The Assistant Nurse Manager demonstrates professional skills and abilities which serve as a catalyst for effective change within the Emergency Department and overall organization. The Assistant Nurse Manager has direct responsibility for the management and supervision of patient care services and related programs in the Emergency Department. In collaboration with the other Assistant Nurse Managers, he/she is responsible for the organization and work supervision of employees, staff development, expense control, process improvement and problem solving in the delivery of patient care and related services within the unit. The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for hiring, assignment of work, coaching, training, performance evaluations, and discipline of employees.
Qualification Requirements/Preferences: Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities Educational Requirements: Bachelors of Science in Nursing required. Master's degree strongly preferred. License/Certification/Registration Requirements: Valid State of California Registered Nurse License required, BCLS, ACLS, PALS, EDAP or ENPC, TNCC or ATCN, CEN, MICN preferred Experience: Minimum 5 years experience in Emergency Medicine, which includes a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role. Working knowledge of Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission, EMTALA and other state and local regulatory requirements. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrates commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of the patients, colleagues and the organization. Full command of the English language. Demonstrates success working independently, forging relationships and able to manage multiple tasks wth minimum direction. Able to manage and continuously reprioritize competing priorities while being extremely adaptable and flexible while maintaining a positive work environment. Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information for decision support. High level of proficiency using Microsoft Windows and other Microsoft Office software. Physical Demands: (e.g., lifting, standing, walking) Must be able to perform assigned duties in a fast paced environment; ability to sit for long periods of time; able to work within a limited area of space and focus on work while varying levels of activity and noise occur; ability to lift up to 25 pounds of force frequently.
