Redwood Coast Medical Services, Inc. is seeking to add a Board Certified Family Practice physician to its established and well-respected Primary and Urgent Care practice in Gualala. The Family Practice physician provides essential care of registered patients in the support for the RCMS health care system. RCMS is a not-for-profit health center providing a full range of healthcare services at its three clinics located along the coast. Services are designed to meet identified needs of the community, are integrated with other existing healthcare services and systems, and are evaluated on a regular basis to ensure that community health needs are being met.
The RCMS health centers are surrounded by the natural beauty of the North Coast. With the Pacific Ocean to the west and a coastal mountain range to the east, there is a multitude of outdoor activities to enjoy. Along with over three weeks vacation in just your first year, RCMS covers the cost of your health insurance, license renewal, continuing medical education classes and provides free membership to our local gym.
The Physician at RCMS is a Board Certified (or Board eligible) family practitioner who provides essential care of registered patients in the support for the RCMS health care system. Job responsibilities are as follows:
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide primary care services offered at RCMS according to the clinic schedule and maintain quality of care up to the standard of the community physicians.
Refers patients to the appropriate health facilities, agencies and other resources in the community. Stabilizes patients for transfer to higher level of care, when appropriate. Collaborates with local EMS providers when requested and appropriate.
Initiate and maintain problem oriented medical records via dictation or hand written notations.
Maintain confidentiality of all patient records housed at RCMS.
May serve as a preceptor for residents, medical students, PA and FNP students as the situation arises.
Review laboratory findings, notify patient of results or delegate to staff, initial and return for prompt filing.
Provides direction and mentoring of Care Teams.
Use, and is licensed to use RCMS x-ray equipment. Responsible for radiation safety. Supervise RCMS employees taking x-ray under provider direction.
Update education necessary for re-licensure (i.e. ALS/BLS training) and maintain CME credits to qualify and pass the AAFP Board Examination.
Direct the medical assistants and other paramedical staff in performing medical procedures to ensure smooth and expeditious patient care.
Provide health education services supervising development of Health Education Plan, provide staff training and supervision of group sessions (as required by 2450 contract).
OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES
Serve on various clinic committees as agreed upon with other providers and clinic Executive Director. Contribute to the in-service education of RCMS staff, as well as to the local emergency and fire crews.
Meet regularly with other providers to review patient care; participate in Quality Assurance program.
Participate in monthly staff meetings when on duty.
Other duties as required and agreed upon.
JOB REQUIREMENTS •Must have a valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of California. •Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine/Internal Medicine and is in good standing. •Have a current DEA certificate. •Have current CPR certification. •Working knowledge of computers and Electronic Health Records, and experience in the NextGen system preferred. •Strong communication skills, both written and oral. •Have three or more years experiences in patient care and clinical management. •Be public health oriented.

Redwood Coast Medical Services (RCMS), located on the Northern Sonoma and Southern Mendocino Coast of California, opened in 1977, became incorporated and licensed as a community health center in 1978 and was designated in 1999 as a Federally Qualified Health Center. The mission of RCMS is to provide high quality, family-oriented, community-based health care services to area residents and visitors. As a not-for profit health center receiving public funds, RCMS provides services to qualified individuals on a sliding fee scale, as well as to patients with MediCal and Medicare coverage, private insurance and self-pay status.
The geography of the area is the Pacific Ocean to the west and a coastal mountain range to the east. Communities are clustered primarily in a linear fashion along California Highway 1 with the highway itself being a two-lane winding and hilly route. RCMS serves approximately 5000 patients per year for a total of 23,000 visits annually between all three RCMS facilities for primary and urgent care, dental and behavioral healthcare. The largest of the RCMS health centers is located in Gualala and 14 miles north is the RCMS Point Arena Dental and Medical centers. RCMS also runs a busy Urgent Care Department and is designated by the state as an Interim Stabilization Facility, allowing the health center to receive ambulance transports. The comprehensive health services of RCMS are a vital resource for area residents and visitors.
We are located on a remote stretch of coastline (about 2.5 hours North of San Francisco), with the closest hospital about 90 minutes away. Some patients needing transfer from our Urgent Care will take a 20 minute helicopter ride to either Sutter or Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa.
