As members of the health care team, the Primary and Urgent Care Nurses provide and perform comprehensive professional nursing duties for patients who come to the clinic with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses. Job duties of the Primary/Urgent Care Nurse include the following:
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Screen patients and provide immediate/urgent treatment, according to the status of the patients and level care needed within scope of practice and learning.
Room patient and prepare for examination by provider.
Set up and operate specialized equipment, such as cardiac monitors, EKG machines, etc.
Prepare patients for tests, exams and treatment
Administer prescribed medications following the “five rights in giving medication”
Anticipates and performs preliminary specimen collection and CLIA waived lab testing as indicated.
Document and report lab results to Provider and patient.
Maintain health records by proper and complete documentation of nursing observations, interventions, therapeutic measurers and patient education
Provide counseling and teach patients and families on preventative, curative and rehabilitative measurers involved in health care.
Exercise excellent interpersonal skills in handling interaction with hospital staff, patients and families
Coordinate patient flow
Maintain professional knowledge and skill in nursing by attending continuing education, staff meetings and workshops.
Maintains organized, clean, efficient and confidential work area.
Maintain patient confidentiality and follows HIPAA guidelines
Ensure all communications reflect the standard and mission of RCMS
Carry out other duties within the scope of RN license as assigned by the Clinical Operations Manager
OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES
Arrange transport for patients via ground/flight as required.
Monitor drug and vaccines, discard expired medications and responsible for completing the Narcotic Count and Log in a timely manner.
Prepares exam room for use, monitoring supplies, sanitizing exam table and equipment between use.
Assist in ordering medications and supplies for Urgent Care.
Registered Nurse License (California)
Practical knowledge of professional nursing principles
Skills to provide comprehensive emergent/non-emergent nursing care
Practical knowledge of pharmaceuticals, therapeutic effects, side effects and complications.
Practical knowledge and skill in operating specialized emergency medical equipment.
Practical knowledge of a variety of nursing specializations including but not limited to prenatal, post-partum, pediatrics, internal medicine, diabetes, etc.
Current CPR, BLS, PALS and ACLS is required (for Urgent Care), TNCC preferred
Must demonstrate leadership skills and creativity in problem solving
A valid California Driver’s License

About Redwood Coast Medical Services
Redwood Coast Medical Services (RCMS), located on the Northern Sonoma and Southern Mendocino Coast of California, opened in 1977, became incorporated and licensed as a community health center in 1978 and was designated in 1999 as a Federally Qualified Health Center. The mission of RCMS is to provide high quality, family-oriented, community-based health care services to area residents and visitors. As a not-for profit health center receiving public funds, RCMS provides services to qualified individuals on a sliding fee scale, as well as to patients with MediCal and Medicare coverage, private insurance and self-pay status.
The geography of the area is the Pacific Ocean to the west and a coastal mountain range to the east. RCMS serves approximately 5000 patients per year for a total of 23,000 visits annually between all three RCMS facilities for primary and urgent care, dental and behavioral healthcare. The largest of the RCMS health centers is located in Gualala and 14 miles north is the RCMS Point Arena Dental and Medical centers. RCMS also runs a busy Urgent Care Department and is designated by the state as an Interim Stabilization Facility, allowing the health center to receive ambulance transports. The comprehensive health services of RCMS are a vital resource for area residents and visitors.
We are located on a remote stretch of coastline (about 2.5 hours North of San Francisco), with the closest hospital about 90 minutes away. Some patients needing transfer from our Urgent Care will take a 20 minute helicopter ride to either Sutter or Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa.
