The Building Operations Coordinator of American University Library ensures that students, faculty, patrons, and staff of American University will have facilities and spaces that are welcoming and conducive to learning and study. The incumbent ensures a clean and orderly environment through coordination with housekeeping; notifies and follows up with Facilities Management and Planning and Project Management for renovations, repairs, and upgrades to library facilities; addresses security issues and emergency management with the Office of Public Safety; offers computer technical support to students, patrons, faculty, and staff; enforces library policies with the users, and mediates conflicts between users and staff when necessary. Additionally, this position also coordinates the Research Commons and Collaborative room reservation schedules each semester. The incumbent oversees four full time Library Operations Specialists, up to six part time Operations Specialists and forty part time student assistants, and manages the Receiving Room, supervising 3-4 part time professional staff. The incumbent plans and manages a broad range of long-term projects.
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in training and experience
Three years of supervisory experience, with the attendant skills of motivating, training, and allocating work
A proficiency in a wide range of computing skills and software
Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing
Ability to resolve conflicts and to handle stressful and /or emergency situations
Competencies of reliability, integrity, accountability, diversity appreciation, and effective interpersonal relationships required at a minimum for employment at AU
Demonstrated project planning and initiative abilities, attention to detail, collaboration, communication, customer focus, organizational understanding, planning and organizing, problem solving, drive for results, flexibility, initiative, coaching skills, and collaborative leadership
Ability to lift, carry, and push heavy loads of books, and the ability to move furniture
