This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Renal Division. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
The Renal Division has an active clinical outpatient practice that cares for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease, Hypertension, Congenital Abnormalities and Renal Transplation. The division has outpatient office hours Monday through Friday and approximaetly 15 physicians see patients in the outpatient setting.
Position performs secretarial duties such as typing medical dictation, preparing spreadsheet/report formats, filing, etc.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Answers phone; triage calls and distribute calls/messages.
Sorts and distributes information received via fax.
Forwards information to various divisions, dialysis units or transplant office on non-outpatient CKD patients.
Prints office notes to prepare for clinic visits.
If no recent labs available, contacts patients to remind them of the need for lab work.
Places laboratory orders on-line with BJH, Quest and LabCorp labs.
Faxes lab requisitions to outside laboratories.
Ensures proper functioning and troubleshoots issues.
Covers duties of other staff during his/her absence.
Follow up on RN and physician requests.
Follow up on patient orders with RN and physicians.
Prepares paperwork for clinics.
Scheduling diagnostic tests and procedures.
Completes prior authorizations for tests and medications.
High school diploma or GED; a Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with a minimum of 6 months of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers); substitutions include:
Medical Assistant certification/registration eligible with successful completion of certification exam within 6 months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.).
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program is highly preferred; 2 years or more of Medical Assistant experience highly preferred; electronic medical record experience
Interactive communication skills with ability to work with physicians, patients, families, significant others, and support staff; must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills, working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of medical terminology, and experience/knowledge working with electronic medical records
The hiring range for this position is $13.89 - $17.01 per hour.
