Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Collaboration Systems Engineer for the Cisco Voice/Unified Communications and Collaboration Solutions area in the Office of Information Technology-Enterprise Infrastructure. The incumbent in this position works independently while utilizing significant expertise and judgment in the expansion of university-wide unified communications systems and architecture.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
Manages system-wide planning, design, development, configuration, installation, implementation and deployment of voice, contact center, and video technologies.
Develops innovative solutions for university clients by conducting client needs assessment, developing project costs and deliverables and managing projects from conception to completion.
Manages multiple projects simultaneously and works closely with internal and external engineering staff in the installation of systems in new and existing facilities.
Carries out system-wide monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance, as well as system documentation, in addition to providing significant input into policy and protocol development.
Keeps abreast of technical developments in the field and applies in-depth technical knowledge and hands-on skill to analyze technical information, assess issues and make technical decisions in the resolution of system problems.
Supervises and develops support staff.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor of science degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Six years of experience in telecommunications, computing, and information technology, whereof at least three years are in IP telephony implementation in Unified Communications/Cisco Voice
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Unity/Unity Connection Voice Mail, IM & Presence and Unified Contact Center experience
Must be a self-starter with a focus on quality work and the ability to act as the technical lead on both small and large projects.
Knowledge of Quality of Service (QoS) related to IP Telephony/Video
Knowledge of legacy PBX technologies
Solid understanding of current Operating Systems
Possesses a high degree of system level troubleshooting
Ability to thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team environment
Ability to assist and effectively communicate with individuals across the organization
Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to articulate Cisco Collaboration/Unified
Advanced knowledge in voice and VoIP telecommunications
Fluency in using the Microsoft Office Suite and Visio
Requires experience with some of the following:
Cisco Routers and Switches, Gateways/CUBEs and Gatekeepers
Enterprise/Express and knowledge of other Cisco Collaboration applications
CCNP Voice and CCNP Route/Switch or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of CCNP-Voice or Collaboration, CCNP-Route/Switch, CCNA
Must be able to operate a service van and use Fluke network testers and telephone testing equipment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift heavy items of 60 lbs or more.
Must be able to climb a 6-foot ladder.
Must have a valid driver's license, two years driving experience and complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
