JOB SUMMARY: The Geisinger Addiction Medicine program is looking for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant to work in our growing Medication Assisted Treatment Program. The incumbent will practice in an outpatient setting at Geisinger South Wilkes Barre, and will work on a multidisciplinary team that provides MAT to individuals with an opioid or alcohol use disorder. Applicants must possess an active PA license, and the requisite DATA2000 Waiver that governs the prescription of buprenorphine to treat addiction. Preference will be given to applicants that possess or are close to qualifying for a limit of 100 buprenorphine patients.
Nurse Practitioner: Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team within the Division of Psychiatry at Geisinger Medical Center delivering care within the Division of Psychiatry and, on a consultative basis, throughout the medical center. Primary job functions include:
Provides direct patient care related to the management of on-going psychiatric treatment in concert with supervising psychiatric staff.

Participates in hospital coverage pool for inpatient psychiatric units. This includes weekend rounding as scheduled.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*1. Provides outpatient medication management, psychiatric evaluations and counseling services in the outpatient clinic and satellite clinics as scheduled.
*2. Functions as a member of the Consultation Service Team to provide evaluation and follow-up care for patients hospitalized within GMC under the supervision of the Consult psychiatrist or their designee.
*3. Participates as a member of the Division's Emergency Service, providing patient evaluation, referral, etc. as appropriate.
*4. Works with Psychiatric Physician Assistant staff to provide coverage for Physician Assistant tasks/responsibilities on psychiatric inpatient units.
*5. Delivers all patient care with the highest level of quality within ethical and efficient practice standards.

Physician Assistant: Provides direct care to psychiatric inpatients under the clinical supervision of the attending psychiatrist. Actively participates as a member of the inpatient treatment team and works collaboratively with other behavioral health professionals. Obtains patient data, monitors symptoms, provides input into diagnostic assessment, gives orders for treatment and care and contributes to the overall care of the patient in collaboration with the attending physician. Provides services within the scope of an Advance Practitioner. Reports to the Operations Manager for the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.

*2. Functions as a member of the Consultation and Emergency Team to provide evaluation and follow up care and/or referral information for patients in the Emergency Department, the inpatient behavioral health unit, and the inpatient acute care units within GCMC.
*3. Provides information to patients and/or family about ECT procedure.
*4. Completes medication reconciliation as needed upon admission, transfer and discharge.
*5. Participates in the development of discharge plans and discharge instructions.
*6. Gathers and analyzes patient information relating to symptoms, behaviors, strengths and limitations for use in determining and guiding treatment decisions.
*12. Assists psychiatry leadership in the strategic development of advance practice roles and services.

The successful Physician Assistant candidate will work under the responsibility and supervision of the physician and require completion of an ARC-PA (or predecessor organization) approved physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification or eligibility and Pennsylvania State licensure. The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will work in collaboration with the physician and have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners or be eligible to hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position. Must be eligible for licensure as a nurse practitioner in the state of PA.
