The three Worcester campuses of the Medical Center and other affiliates of the UMass Memorial clinical system are the major training sites for the UMass Medical School and physicians are faculty members of the Medical School.
The two community hospital members of UMass Memorial Health Care are Marlborough Hospital, a 79-bed hospital in Marlborough, Massachusetts; and HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital, a 170-bed hospital with services on three campuses in North Central Massachusetts. Seven other community hospitals in Central Massachusetts have affiliation agreements with UMass Memorial.
UMass Memorial Health Care is committed to improving the health of the people of the diverse communities of Central New England through culturally sensitive excellence in clinical care, service, teaching, and research.
In October 2017, UMass Memorial HealthAlliance Hospital merged with UMass Memorial Clinton Hospital, effectively creating one medical license for this multi-campus hospital. Since the official merger, the newly combined organization, which is led by Deborah Weymouth, CEO, has been focused on integration of leadership, administrative, and clinical functions. This has also included a broader effort focused on referral management to ensure that patients receive the right care and within the most appropriate location within HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital’s three core facilities. This “rebalancing” initiative has also recently expanded to include UMass Memorial Medical Center, with a goal of ensuring patients are receiving care, at the right time, at the right cost. Such efforts have been well received and have led to an increase in volume within HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital.
In addition to the above efforts, the entire UMass Memorial Health Care System converted to EPIC on October 1, 2017. As a result, UMass HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital has been focused on stabilizing and optimizing the new system, in particular with the medical staff, which includes both employed and community physicians as well as advanced practitioners.
On an additional and positive note, UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital initiated a 48,000-square foot, $27 million hospital improvement plan at the Leominster campus, including the expansion of the existing emergency department and increasing the number of patient rooms.
UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital is located in north central Massachusetts with campuses in Leominster (41,0000), Clinton (13,000), and Fitchburg (40,000). Each are proud of their small city friendliness and character. The region is a mix of suburban and semi-rural areas and is less than one hour from Boston and twenty minutes from Worcester. The region is considered one of the most affordable areas in New England to live and boasts solid public and private school systems. The region has abundant recreation and outdoor activities including boating, hiking, skiing, golfing, and biking.
