Higher Education Institution
The Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy
Tufts University, Boston, Massachusetts
Open Rank – Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor
Contract, Tenure-Track or Tenured Research and Teaching Appointment
The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy (http://www.nutrition.tufts.edu) is a leader in domestic and international nutrition and food systems teaching, research and policy. The Friedman School benefits from world-class, interdisciplinary faculty, a remarkable network of alumni and supporters, and global reach. The Friedman School is actively growing and recruiting faculty across several multidisciplinary areas, including the present position; nutrition, obesity, and diabetes; climate change, sustainability, and food systems; and behavioral interventions.
In this international open search, the Friedman School seeks a faculty member with expertise in Big Data and advanced analytics to provide new dimensions and strategies to better understand the role of nutrition in a modern society, inform and monitor behavioral change, and to build an integrative inter-sectoral knowledge platform in nutrition science and policy. We seek applicants capable of conceptualizing and conducting research that explore the development and adaptation of computational methods and models for ‘big data’ in nutrition. This could include the development and applications of a wide range of technologies and research methods, simulations and computational modeling, and the development and utilization of large datasets. Timely monitoring and data gathering can be used to both measure and motivate behavior taking advantage of emerging mobile sensor-based technologies. These advances hold promise for the easy collection of enormous amounts of data that could be used to prevent and more effectively treat nutrition related conditions at both the individual and population level.
Candidates are expected to bring and further develop a vigorous externally-funded research program, to consult and assist in relevant study design, sampling methods, implementation, and data analysis, visualization, and management, to develop new analytical, computational and statistical tools relevant for nutritional research.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach 2-3 advanced graduate level courses per year, to advise graduate students at the masters and doctoral levels, to supervise doctoral dissertations and engage in University and professional service. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven record of scholarship and research interests that offer opportunities for collaborations with faculty across the Schools of Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, School of Medicine, and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
This is a full-time, 12-month position. This is a contract, tenure-track or tenured position to be offered at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Professor. Salary, start-up package, and benefits are competitive and will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience. The starting date is negotiable. A record of independent research and publications with external financial support is expected. A candidate’s areas of focus should complement the Friedman School’s existing strengths in research and teaching programs.
