Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks and duties in support of the campus community. Provides daily cleaning tasks in assigned areas, to ensure a clean and safe environment for students and staff to live, work, and study. Must provide own tools measuring 12 inches and under, such as screwdriver, pliers, adjustable wrench, hammer, utility knife, etc. Specific Responsibilities
Mop, sweep, scrub, and wax floors and other surfaces; shampoo carpets when necessary.
Renovate and renew floor surfaces and finishes using scrubbing and burnishing machines.
Collect waste paper and other debris; place items outdoors for removal by trash truck.
Clean exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and furnishings; clean and wax furniture as required; wash and/or clean window and door glass.
Sweeps assigned building entryways and maintain their cleanliness to a distance of fifteen feet from each entrance.
Clean ventilators and heating grills.
Move furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment as required.
Shovel snow as necessary.
Assist in setting up and in dismantling displays and other materials.
Clean and service lavatories, toilet rooms, and shower rooms as assigned and using prescribed methods.
Lock and unlock doors to classrooms, lecture rooms, offices, dormitories, etc. as required.
Report emergency repairs to the Facilities Management office; report needed general repairs to the Supervisor.
Maintain complete familiarity with safety rules and procedures in the performance of assigned duties. Request additional training as needed.
Maintain complete familiarity with operation and basic maintenance of job-related equipment and supplies. Request additional training as needed.
Understand and follow all safety rules.
Maintain a safe, healthy and environmentally sound workplace demonstrated by following good housekeeping practices, notifying supervisors of potential hazards, adhering to OSHA standards and other safe practice procedures, and being an example for other staff regarding safe equipment use.
Contributes to the overall success of facilities management and the university by performing other duties and responsibilities as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of and ability to safely use or handle the following: Plastic bags in waste receptacles; up to 30 gallon containers, filled bags up to 15 lbs, Vacuum sweeper and extractor machines, Buckets and 5-gal wringer bucket, up to 20 lbs. filled, Wet mop, 12 oz. and 16 oz. dry weights, up to 6 lbs. in use, Broom, Dust mop, Cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, deodorizers, wax, 5 gallon containers of cleaning compound @ 45 lbs., Counter brush and pan, Stepladders; wood, aluminum, and fiberglass @ 3 ft. to 12 ft., 22 lbs. to 77 lbs, Scaffolding up to 40 ft. high-40 lbs. per end section, Gloves, Floor waxing machines, Floor buffing machines, Extension ladders 38 lbs. to 100 lbs., 16 ft. to 40 ft. Knowledge of English language including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar. Ability to set priorities and advocate team concepts; work collaboratively with faculty and staff. The ability to receive and interpret instructions and to maintain a flexible work schedule are required; overtime availability is required. Experience Requires two to three weeks of thorough on-the-job training on equipment used and familiarity of buildings. Physical Demand Work routines involve climbing stairs, step ladders, and scaffolding; bending; pushing and pulling wet mops, containers of liquids, vacuum sweepers, and buffing and waxing machines; lifting filled trash bags and transporting to collection site; moving classroom, office, and residence hall furniture. Walking, and transporting equipment between work areas. Lifts various weights up to 100 lbs. on a daily/rare basis. Pushes or pulls various weights up to 95 lbs. on a frequent basis. Carries various weights up to 45 lbs. on a frequent basis.
Education A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
