Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director-Dental Research.
In this role, the successful candidate The Director of Dental Research will be a key leader within the Division of Dental Medicine. Working closely with the dental leadership team, faculty, and residents as well as the broader research community both locally and nationally/internationally, the Director will support creating a culture of research in the NYU Langone Dental network. In addition, the ideal applicant will possess:
Develop an oral health services research program at NYU Langone Dental with external funding support from, e.g., NIH/NIDCR, HRSA, and CDC.
Develop a health services research/implementation science agenda for medical/dental integration.
Strengthen partnerships with existing organizations/institutions, foundations, and individuals to support oral health and health care research.
Submit research grant applications to public and private entities, e.g., NIH/NIDCR, HRSA, CDC, and DentaQuest.
Develop a practice-based research network using FQHC dental components and residents throughout the United States and internationally.
Mentor junior faculty and residents in obtaining external funding support and writing for peer-reviewed publication.
Manage resident research initiatives.
Contribute to on-line module and curriculum development on research topics such as oral epidemiology and quantitative and qualitative research methods for residents and faculty.
Develop productive research-oriented partnerships with other NYU Langone departments.
Establish a research agenda for community-based efforts that foster and support oral health equity.
Advise on NYU School of Medicine IRB applications for residents and faculty.
Support the analysis of quantitative and qualitative research data and the dissemination of research results.
Enhance departmental participation in national and international meetings by preparing and submitting Division of Dental Medicine accomplishments for publication and presentation.
Collaborate with marketing and administrative teams to track, record, and ensure promotion of (ongoing and future) public health and research accomplishments of dental faculty, staff, and residents
Maintain the highest ethical, scientific, and professional standards in all research and practice initiatives.
Doctoral degree in a Public Health discipline such as epidemiology, biostatistics, or the behavioral and social sciences
10 years or more of leadership experience in heading research teams and projects specifically devoted to oral health; a proven track record of obtaining external research funding support from public agencies and private foundations; a history of writing, reviewing, and editing for peer-reviewed journals and other scientific and scholarly platforms; and long-standing experience in mentoring junior faculty and residents in research projects and writing for peer-reviewed publication

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
An extensive and ongoing record of scientific publications and presentations at national/international meetings.
The capacity to teach and advise a high volume of dental residents on oral health research, including scientific approaches such as epidemiology, biostatistics (including inferential statistics), health services research, implementation science, and the behavioral and social sciences.
Skills in developing arguments for scientific publication and mentoring practitioners and residents as first authors.
Experience with remote mentoring and teaching dental residents and faculty about critical and emerging research topics in the oral health and health care fields and the integration of medicine/dentistry.
Knowledge of theoretical frameworks, study design, survey and topic guide development, ethical (including HIPAA) safeguards, and the IRB application process at NYU School of Medicine.
Familiarity with REDCap, Qualtrics, and other NYU School of Medicine research tools and applications.
Proficiency in managing multi-site projects and utilizing quantitative and qualitative methods/analytic software.
Advanced knowledge of oral epidemiology and biostatistics a plus.
Ability to collaborate effectively with experts and practitioners from a variety of disciplines.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
