Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Public Relations Specialist.
As a vital member of the NYU Langone Health Office of Communications and Marketing, the Public Relations Specialist will assist in the development and implementation of a dynamic, world-class communications platform to support NYU Langone Health, which is comprised of more than 30,000 employees working across the Tri-State area. Specifically, this position supports the Family Health Centers at NYU Langone (one of the nations largest federally qualified health center networks) and the NYU Langone Brooklyn PPS (a state-funded multi-partner DSRIP program meant to help reshape healthcare delivery in our communities). The position is located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, reporting to the Director of Public Relations at NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn, with a dotted line to the Sr. Director of Institutional Communications at NYU Langone Health.
Works closely with the executive director of the Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, the director of Public Relations at NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn, and the Sr. Director of Institutional Communications at NYU Langone Health to help execute internal and external communications programs and strategies on behalf of the FHCs to drive employee/partner engagement and communicate critical information to a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders.
Will serve as primary go to person for FHC and the Performing Provider System PPS communications including developing/distributing quarterly and monthly newsletters; managing the PPS programs website with a focus on branding, content, provider/member engagement, updating and maintaining FHC intranet pages, social pages, and public facing website.
Assists in uncovering timely and compelling stories and delivering key messages (articles, blog posts, and institutional announcements) that continuously emphasize and promote the vision of the Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, and the NYU Langone Brooklyn PPS.
Communication channels also include town halls, department head meetings, and internal newsletters, employee portals, and other communications (deliverables include PowerPoint presentations, written messages, press releases and talking points for leadership).
Collaborate with PPS leadership to develop and implement both broad and targeted partner engagement and communication strategies, using new tools where applicable, and collaborating with PPS director to provide support for large PPS meetings/conferences.
Maintain and foster effective relationships with media personnel, external bloggers, etc., and develop media outreach activities.
As a key member of the Office of Communications and Marketing, this position will also help to maintain and update contact lists, compile monthly press reports and media logs specific to the FHC programs.
Works closely with director of public relations and public relations manager on issues management and crisis situations including helping to draft internal emails, emergency alerts and communications to staff.
Collaborates with colleagues across the Office of Communications and Marketing (press, digital media, marketing, and publications) on initiatives that related to system wide external/internal communications initiatives.
Share on-call responsibilities for department to provide 24/7 coverage for media contacts. And handle other related functions as necessary.
Bachelors degree required, preferably in communications, journalism or English.
5+ years of communications experience; experience working with multiple departments and diverse employee populations a plus.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
Experience working with corporate intranets (writing and/or publishing content, maintaining brand design, optimizing for users).
Experience with television news, media relations, crisis communications, community outreach and/or marketing, especially in a culturally diverse community.
Ability to create effective messages aligned with the goals of the organization.
Creative self-starter and out-of-the-box thinker and able to juggle multiple assignments while maintaining high quality.
Proficient with Microsoft Office software and familiarity with Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Mail Chimp, and other common applications is a plus.
Photography skills and ability to edit photos a plus.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
