<p>The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota will have a one-year full-time (100%) Clinical Instructor position in Large Animal Surgery beginning July 30, 2018 and ending July 28, 2019. This position offers a unique opportunity for veterinarians who have completed their equine or large animal surgery residency program to gain additional experience with complex clinical cases and with management of a clinical service in a supervised setting, while also providing time to study and sit the ACVS certifying exam. Eligible applicants must have experience with equine, food animal, camelids, and small ruminants. The position has an annual salary of $50,000 with full health insurance benefits.</p><p>Responsibilities:<br />The primary duties of this position will be divided between providing emergency service and elective daytime primary or back-up services for large animal surgical and sports medicine/lameness cases in the Large Animal Hospital and Piper Equine Hospital. The Clinical Instructor will be responsible for 60% of the emergency duty (200 days/year) and 20 weeks of elective daytime primary or back-up service (to be determined by the needs of the service). A Large Animal Surgery faculty member will be available for support at all times including consultation and direct supervision as appropriate for the situation. The Clinical Instructor will be expected to provide care and oversight of food and fiber cases as well as equine cases. In addition, they will be expected to ensure high quality instruction for DVM students and house officers on rotations and emergency call. Limited participation in teaching laboratories may be requested when needed for the service to meet both clinical and teaching commitments. Participation in seminars and journal clubs for graduate students/house officers in Large Animal Surgery is expected. Appropriate time off clinical and emergency duty (6 weeks) will be allotted to those individuals studying for the ACVS certifying exam. In addition, Clinical Instructors are eligible for 15 days of personal leave time per year.</p>
<p><span style="font-size:12px;"><span style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">Requirements/Qualifications:<br />We seek candidates that have completed their ACVS residency program and are qualified to sit for the ACVS certifying exam, but ACVS Diplomates are also encouraged to apply. Qualified applicants must be eligible for licensing in Minnesota by being graduates of either 1) AVMA COE accredited veterinary schools who have passed the North American Licensing Exam (NAVLE) by the start date, or 2) non-accredited schools who have ECFVG or PAVE certificates and have passed the NAVLE by the start date. Applicants without these credentials will not be considered. The Minnesota Board of Veterinary Medicine requires all clinicians to become licensed and accredited in the state of Minnesota. The candidate selected for the position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue to work legally for the proposed term of employment. All costs related to obtaining a visa will be the responsibility of any successful foreign candidate. Excellent communication skills are required.</span></span></p>
