Required Education and Experience:
Associate degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
No experience required.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic computer skills.
General understanding of equipment used in a veterinary medical teaching hospital.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Other Requirements or Other Factors:
No inhibiting allergies to animals, hay or dust.
Ability to move or lift heavy loads.
Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor.
May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or âœon-call dutyâ.
Provide quality customer service to internal and external customers/clients.
Preferred Education and Experience:
One year experience in a veterinary medical setting or experience in animal handling and animal care.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
LVTin the State of Texas.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General understanding of equipment used in with area of specialization, such as anesthetic machines, fluid pumps, blood gas analyzers, defibrillators, and nebulizers, ultrasound or endoscopic equipment.
Experienced in the handling and restraint of Horses and Food Animals.
Salary: $13.01 - $16.72.
Assists with patient restraint & handling
Assists with initial examination Obtains patient history
Assists with proper aseptic technique
Assists with site preparation
Assists with IV catheters
Assists with Nasogastric tubes
Assists with collection of patientâ™s blood, urine and tissues.

Administers fluid therapy under direction of VT II or higher.
Administers medications IM, IV, PO, Sub-Q under direction of VT II or higher. Administers and monitors patient diet as prescribe under direction of VT II or higher.
Maintains patients cleanliness and grooming.
Performs and assists with bandage changes. Performs and assists preoperative preparation of patients for surgery.
Ensures that all medications and equipment used on a field service call are cleaned and restocked immediately upon return so the truck is ready in case of emergency.
Sets up and cleans stalls, treatment areas and exam rooms as needed.
Performs record keeping.
Restocks expendable supplies, drugs and solutions..
Assists with physical restraint for safe handling of patient animals.
Ability to move or lift heavy loads.
Loads & Unloads animals into trailers as needed. Exercises patients.
Assists with back up support to other services in the form of a floating technician within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital when the Food Animal Medicine and Surgery service is not busy and perform additional duties as directed.
Enters hospital fees and patient data into the hospitalâ™s computer information system as directed by VT II or higher.
Assures all charges generated from treatments, procedures, and supplies are correctly entered.
Monitors and records physiological data into patient medical record.
Records all medications given. Maintains hospital stall census.
Helps maintain and operate point of care laboratory equipment.
Provides weekday, weekend, and holiday âœon-callâ technical support as needed.
May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekend, or âœon-callâ duty.
Performs other duties as assigned.
