The Director of Operations & Data Analysis at Johns Hopkins University reports to the Executive Director of Annual Giving and is responsible for leading the strategy and execution of data management for the central Office of Annual Giving (OAG) at Johns Hopkins.
The Director and the team he or she leads serves as a strategic partner, center of excellence, and service provider in a decentralized university and development environment. OAG provides annual giving services to the nine divisions of the university, multiple departments of Johns Hopkins Medicine, and several centers and institutes, totaling 35 development units in all. These annual giving services comprise providing strategy and execution planning around securing current use, expendable funds as well as building and retaining a long term pipeline of support for each of these units.
Strategic services include developing integrated comprehensive and integrated solicitation strategies that are optimal for each development unit. Like all offices and units in Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), the central Office of Annual giving is committed to a donor-directed philanthropy philosophy. Donors and prospects across the units served include alumni, parents, friends, faculty, and staff. The Director will be an effective manager and leader and will exhibit excellent quantitative and analytical capabilities, strong understanding of new and emerging fundraising and quantitative modeling techniques and technologies, have a background in database and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software and project management.
He or she manages a team of 8, has 3 direct reports, and is member of the IT Governance Council.
Using the institutions’ donor database, ALADIN, and other data software including but not limited to: Tableau, Campus Call, and Reeher, establish annual metrics, reports, and dashboards for the development units and Undergraduate Annual Gift Officers. The Director will assist in guiding development units on annual giving strategies and provide oversight of the Operations and Data Analysis team to ensure that unit data requests are created and implemented in alignment of unit needs and goals, and partner with OAG colleagues to provide data quality and integration to mail houses, the institution’s phonathon program managed by Ruffalo Noel Levitz, Reeher, and other vendors.
In conjunction with the Executive Director provide strategic analysis of revenue and donor acquisition to assist with the creation and/or usage of a solicitation module, annual giving predictive models, dashboards, and trend analysis for development units. Partner with the Director of Undergraduate Annual Gift Officers to provide trend analysis for enhanced engagement of undergraduate alumni and provide a platform to highlight the monthly results toward annual goal of the gift officer team.
Assist with the strategic direction and provide oversight for key pan-institutional or multi-unit programs, including giving days and the Homewood Schools reunion giving program. Partner with members of DAR to identify and track to facilitate optimization of return on investment (ROI) of multi-channel solicitation methods. The Director will also partner with DAR colleagues to identify and track Search Engine Optimization (SEO) analytics of all OAG created solicitations and content to be able to provide strategic guidance to development units on how to enhance revenue and donor acquisition. Provide strategic guidance on maximizing revenue for the flagship undergraduate annual fund, The Hopkins Fund, to optimize the level of undergraduate participation necessary for the University to elevate its USN&WR ranking.
Bachelor’s degree or higher with a least five years of progressive experience in data analytics and data operations and at least two years of management experience.

Ability to identify multi-variables needed to optimize engagement and predictive indices. Extensive experience in working strategically with data quality vendors Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation capabilities. Strong desire to succeed and excellent work ethic. Experience in leading or project management
Filemaker Pro, Crystal Reports and SQL. Experience in using data visualization tools (i.e. Tableau or similar).
