The College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Medical Center seeks a registered veterinary technician to join the Small Animal Surgery (SAS) unit in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This opportunity will allow the successful candidates to assist team clinicians and care-giving colleagues with the reception, treatment, and monitoring of all patients within the SAS unit. Additionally the successful candidates will oversee and instruct professional veterinary students in preparation of animals and equipment for medical procedures and delivery of care. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: organizes, directs, and provides helpful and collegial assistance to professional students, clinicians, residents, and technical students during receiving appointment hours; coordinates with reception; assists with patient exams; prepares and labels specimens; assists with receiving surgical emergencies, on call duties, client communication with phone calls and release instructions; prepares animals and equipment for surgery (clips, shaves and scrubs body area for operation); sets up appropriate equipment and instruments for each case; prepares & labels specimens obtained in surgery; assists surgeons during surgical procedures using aseptic techniques; cleans and disinfects operating rooms, equipment and related areas; demonstrates and observes veterinary students in operating room procedures; other duties as assigned. The successful candidates will be expected to work 40 hours a week on first shift with hours falling between 9:00 am-6:00 pm. Successful candidate must be a Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of Ohio and complete a background check.

Physical Requirements: Pushing/pulling/lifting up to 50 pounds, exposure to animal dander and/or zoonotic diseases, exposure to needle sticks, hazardous chemicals, and/or bio hazardous waste.
Associate's degree in Animal Health Technology from an approved AVMA Technician Program; minimum of one year of previous and related work experience; ability to obtain OVMLB License prior to start date.
