Job Description Summary
Rosalind Franklin University Health System invites applications for a full-time Patient Service Representative/Medical Assistant position. The Patient Service Representative/Medical Assistant will be responsible for greeting patients, making and scheduling patient appointments, providing information, communicating with departments, answering phones and other duties associated with the reception area. Responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so that they may fully utilize and benefit from the services and conveys a positive image.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Greet patients in polite, prompt, helpful manner; provide necessary instructions/directions; inform appropriate department/person of patient’s arrival; arrange, coordinate and reschedule appointments; relay necessary information to staff; answer telephones in pleasant and timely manner; deal with patient needs expeditiously; enter and update patient information into computer system; collect copays; assist patients with completion of forms, obtaining necessary signatures; maintain clean, orderly waiting area; oversee coordination of patient movement; report issues or irregularities; fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned (i.e., check schedule; organize patient flow; accompany patients to exam/procedure room; assist patients with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, blood draws, preparing for exam, etc.; collect patient history, perform screenings per provider guidelines; assist physicians/nurses with various procedures; maintain charts; relay instructions to patient and families; answer calls; provide pertinent information); fulfill clerical responsibilities (i.e., send/receive patient medical records; obtain lab reports, x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; complete forms/requisitions; schedule appointments; verify insurance coverage and patient demographics; manage and chart to ensure information completed and filed appropriately); fulfill environmental responsibilities (i.e., set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; clean sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program; maintain appropriate records; order, sort, store supplies; restock exam/procedure rooms); fulfill organizational responsibilities (i.e., respect/promote patient rights; respond to emergency codes; share problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors).
Required Education & Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent, Certified Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA); one year medical assistant/ medical records/patient care services experience. Must be flexable with start time. Must be able to work Saturdays. Must achieve a background check clearance.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance and common medical office procedures; ability to project a pleasant and professional image; knowledge of healthcare field and medical specialty; knowledge of information conveyed to patients and families; ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks; ability and willingness to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures; skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions; ability to work as a team member; must have strong computer skills with attention to detail; must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage multiple priorities with strong organizational skills; ability to show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences. Exhibit sound/accurate judgment; multitask; proficient in the use of standard office equipment; must work well in a fast paced setting.
Bilingual in Spanish/English.
