Supports Carilion's and Jefferson College of Health Science's hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities. Plans, implements and evaluates academic curriculum and assigned teaching responsibilities. Serves as academic advisor for students and participates in scholarly and service activities. Educates students in all aspects of Emergency Medical Services. Must have the ability to teach all courses associated with the 2009 National Standard Paramedic Curriculum.
Education: Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in an emergency services related field. Doctorally prepared candidates will receive preference.
Experience: Minimum five (5) years experience as a field paramedic. Experience in teaching college level classes both in traditional classroom and distance education formats preferred.
Certification: Certification as a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic with additional certifications in CPR, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, GEMS, and AMLS with instructor credentials preferred. Critical Care Paramedic certification preferred (must be willing to obtain). Recognition as a Virginia ALS-Coordinator highly desirable. Must obtain Virginia reciprocity within 3 months of hire.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must have ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Basic understanding of educational principles and methodologies. Leadership and organizational abilities essential.
