<p>Overview: This is a temporary position lasting until August 31, 2019. This position will promote dental health and support patients and patient care delivery at the Nurse Practitioner clinic (NPC), 3 days per week. We are looking for a competent dental hygienist who will provide exceptional care make the dental clinic more efficient and pleasant for patients. The clinic is an interprofessional environment where multiple health care providers work collaboratively to improve the health of patients. The dental component of the NPC is a grant funded pilot to determine how to create a sustainable, on-going clinic with advanced dental therapists as the primary oral health provider. As the dental portion of the clinic is small with minimal dental staff, each staff member will play multiple roles and work together as a team to accomplish all required tasks. This position calls for someone who is well-organized and pays attention to detail. The dental hygienist should be able to work independently as well as able to follow instructions. This position supports the mission of the clinic by facilitating the patient experience, engaging in clinical dental hygiene practice, and assuring the clinic is operated and maintained in a manner that allows for the provision of high quality patient care. <br /><br />Responsibilities:<br /><br />•Contact patients from NPC co-visit call list and schedule dental appointments.<br />•Gather initial patient information (including insurance information).<br />•Create patient chart in the axiUm electronic record system.<br />•Confirm patient visits.<br />•Welcome patients into the NPC and confirm their readiness for the visit.<br />•Monitor referrals to School of Dentistry by communicating with Team Care Clinic’s Patient Care Coordinators and collaborating dentists on referrals, as well as following up with patients referred to Team Care Clinic.<br />•Assist the dental therapist through 4-handed dentistry.<br />•Assists patients in resolving minor difficulties, answering their questions and giving directions to patients as authorized by the dentist.<br /><br />Clinical Dental Hygiene Practice:<br /><br />•Prepare dental treatment room for patient treatment.<br />•Exposes dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations and Dental area’s protocol.<br />•Completes dental prophylaxis by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and from beneath gum margins.<br />•Detects disease by completing oral cancer screening; feeling and visually examining gums; using probes to locate periodontal disease and to assess levels of recession; exposing and developing radiographic studies.<br />•Arrests dental decay by applying fluorides and other cavity- preventing agents.<br />•Perform other independent procedures as delegated and directed by the dentist or dental therapist in accordance with state regulation.<br />•Help manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification as well as emergency drug and oxygen supply.<br />•Educate patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.<br />•Document dental care services by charting in patient records.<br />•Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential.<br />•Coordinate sterilization service and insure the sterility of all reusable dental instruments and equipment.<br /><br />Clinic Operations and Maintenance:<br /><br />•Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.<br />•Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.<br />•Ensure operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; and maintaining equipment inventories.<br />•Maintain dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.<br />•Conserve dental resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.</p><p>Salary Range: $61,859.20 to $79,164.80 USD/year</p><p>***This position is represented by a bargaining unit, AFSCME Health Care. <p><strong>All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.</strong></p><p>Minimum/Required Qualifications:</p><p>• Graduation from an accredited program in Dental Hygiene<br />• Licensed as a Dental Hygienist in the state of Minnesota<br />• Current CPR (BLS) certification<br />• Demonstrated/documented ability to attend to multiple tasks at the same time and to prioritize assignments and responsibilities to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols<br />• Demonstrated/documented excellent communication and people skills<br />• Demonstrated/documented attention to detail<br />• Demonstrated/documented well-organized and reliable</p><p>Preferred Qualifications:<br /><br />• Additional certification or training (e.g. Restorative Functions) </p>
